Independent filmmaker Mairi Sutherland talks to us about telling Scotlands stories.

Telling Scotland’s Stories. Mairi Sutherland. Scottish Independence Podcasts

Mairi has been making independent Scottish films for more than 20 years . including the award winning film “Red Rose”, about the life and early death of Robert Burns at the age of 37. She tells us about the making of the film back in 2004 and the changes she has seen in the film industry in Scotland and Hollywood since that time.

We Scots are not well versed in our own history. Mairi is aware of this and has some ideas for ways in which film can help bring more of our history into the limelight. one of her ideas involved Scottish Cowboys. Can’t wait for that one!

Red Rose – have you seen it?

The film is celebrating its 20th anniversary and Mairi is looking to arrange showings in cinemas, theatres and other venues to share the story and take part in audience discussions. So if you have any suggestions, get in touch with us.
