Grangemouth – A History
These are the set of slides that Scott Donohoe, of Glasgow Trade Union council, used illustrate his talk “Grangemouth – Asset Stripping Scotland.” We recorded the talk at a live event organised by Yes GlasgowNW.

Scott began his presentation with a timeline of Grangemouth, its history and development. It started production in 1924 making it the earliest oil refinery in UK. But the origins of the site go back to to 19th Century when James Paraffin Young began the world’s first oil works in 1851 near Bathgate using local shale oil resources. Because of that shale oil industry, the local population held the skills needed for the refinery in 1924.
We’ve had requests to put up the slides he used to illustrate his talk. So here they are!
