Special Episode: Live from the Lord Provost’s Peace Garden – on the 80th Anniversary of Hiroshima
The Lord Provost’s Peace Garden has opened in Glasgow Botanic Gardens. It’s beside the Kibble Palace. The gingko tree seedling – from a tree that survived the Hiroshima nuclear bomb – was planted by the Lord Provost and the Japanese Consul General for Scotland.

Join us for a powerful special episode recorded on 6th August 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. We’re coming to you directly from the Lord Provost’s Peace Garden in Glasgow, where civic leaders, peace activists, and citizens gathered to honour the past and reflect on the future of peace in our world.
This commemorative event highlights Glasgow’s enduring commitment to nuclear disarmament, peace-building, and international solidarity. Tune in for moving speeches and music from Protest in Harmony and City of Glasgow chorus as the community unites in remembrance. The Audio Version is here or watch the video!
Key moments:
- Songs from Protest In Harmony
- Lord Provost’s Civic welcome, followed by the Japanese Consul General for Scotland, Mr Katsutoshi Takeda
- speeches from Jean Anderson and David Peutherer, of Glasgow CND
- we chat to Ava, one of the garden design team, and Pauline, on of the Protest in Harmony singers. And we also managed to catch a few minutes with Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost
