Insults to Scotland? Surely not…
First Insult: ScotGov is a National Security Risk
So said John Healey, UK Defence Secretary. David Lammy, UK Deputy Prime Minister. agreed with him. Then wee Dougie Alexander, Secretary of State for Scotland, chipped in with his tuppence worth too.
Pete Wishart, SNP MP, challenged Lammy about it in the House of Commons. But Lammy just doubled down on it. And claimed he is 5% Scot. When Fiona Saw this clip she responded “Lammy’s 5% Scot should tell the other 95% to shut up!”
We got together with Bill Ramsay and Isobel Lindsay to talk about it. You can listen to the audio podcast or watch the video.

Next Insult: There’ll be Nae Referendum
The day after delivering her budget, Rachel Reeves was doing the rounds of TV & radio interviews. Martin Geissler spoke to her for BBC Radio Scotland. And he dropped in a question about next year’s Holyrood election: Will Labour agree to another independence referendum if SNP gain a majority?
Here’s the TikTok post we made about it:
Arrogance
Well that was very clear! So were the seventy odd comments that were left on our TikTok Post. This one struck me particularly…
I mean – how full of self importance, she is – to tell a nation of people, their democracy isn’t worth a jot!
That comment hits the nail on the head, doesn’t it. Reeves’ response was arrogant. David Lammy and John Healey were arrogant too, casually dismissing Scots’ long-held opposition to nuclear arms. Part of the reason for opposing nuclear arms in Scotland is that they are based 30 miles from most of the population. But a deeper and more telling reason is that Scots know fine that these arms are immoral and should never be used.
Richard Leonard, Labour MSP, gave an impassioned speech in opposition to his own party’s pursuit of more military and armaments based economy at a recent Scottish CND conference. You can watch the full video from the day here. But here is a clip:
