Grangemouth has been headline news for a while now. Refinery operator, PetroIneos, is shutting it down and – supported financially by the UKGov – intending to build an oil refinery in Belgium. ScotGov is struggling to find a just energy transition strategy in the face of – to put it mildly – not much enthusiasm from Westminster.
Rising Clyde host Iain Bruce discusses the potentially unjust transition of workers at Grangemouth following the announcement that over 400 redundancy notices are being issued by Petroineos.
Iain’s guests are
- Rosie Hampton of Friends of the Earth Scotland
- Ewan Gibbs, historian of industry, energy and protest at the University of Glasgow
- Chris Hamilton, Unite Union Convenor at the plant
- aviation engineer Finlay Asher of Safe Landing, a group working towards a sustainable aviation transition.
- and Lewis Conroy, one of five climate protestors from This Is Rigged, up for trial for occupying part of the plant in 2023
