Europe & Scotland
On the 10th anniversary of the Brexit vote we travelled to Brussels for informal discussions across a wide range of topics about Europe & Scotland. We were with other activists from campaign groups Yes for EU and Europe for Scotland. Philippa Whitford, former MP and SNP Spokesperson on Europe, was with us. And – to provide an English perspective – we had the company of Anthony Barnett, founder of Open Democracy.
Our morning meeting began when Philippa Whitford met with Thomas Waitz, Austrian Green MEP. We were there filming their conversation, along with Sam Page of Yes4EU. Anthony and the team from Europe for Scotland joined the conversation half way through.

Thomas and Philippa had a wide-ranging conversation discussing the seismic shift in UK politics over the ten years since Brexit. With added reverberations from Keir Starmer’s resignation the previous day! They also explored the implications of the newly elected nationalist governments across three of the four UK nations— the so called “Celtic Alliance”. Contrast that Alliance with a Westminster government presiding over a fracturing Kingdom and a decade of post Brexit decline.
