Happy New Year to all our listeners and supporters!
Or as Fiona, who is learning Norwegian, would say “Godt Nytt År !!”. Whilst Marlene is learning Gaelic : “Bliadhna mhath ùr !!”
2024 was a busy year for us:
- We published 90 podcasts. Almost all of them available as both video and audio-only. Mostly we invite guests to come and talk to us. But increasingly they are contacting us with an idea they’d like to talk about.
- We reached 300,000 total downloads of our audio podcasts. Our YouTube total for 2024 was 64,000. And Marlene has the spreadsheet to prove it 😄
- Marlene was one of the speakers at the Believe in Scotland / Pensioners 4 Indy Rally. And Fiona was interviewed by a Dutch film crew who were there making a documentary about the Indy Movement.
- Vox pops at marches are fun to do. Marlene was mistaken for Val McDermid on one march! We caught up with Alex Salmond on the AUOB march and discovered that he was a fan of the podcast. A sad day when we heard about his death later in the year.
- A development this year has been producing a podcast by arranging clips from an event and linking them up with our own ideas and observations. We did that with our interview with Leanne Wood in “A Blueprint from Wales?” It’s a good way of making the material easier to take on board.
- We covered a General Election! We had a bit of fun with the various gaffes made by Mr Sunak. Pity about the result from an Indy point of view. But Labour is keeping us provided with their own gaffes so fingers crossed for Holyrood next year.
- Another first was our end of the month IndyPodcasters Live! where we talk about what’s been in the news and anything that caught our eye in the Indy Movement that month. We love the interaction with people watching it… we can show their comments as they happen and respond there and then.
- In talking to various of our guests over the last couple of years, we’ve both become more acutely aware of our lack of knowledge of Scottish history. One result of this is a series of history themed podcasts.
And one last thing to celebrate… We feature as two of five Indy Grassroots Activists picked out by Laura Pollock for the National. So we’ve updated our social media profile: Indy Extremists and Grassroots Stars!
