Women for Independence : On the Road Again!
On International Women’s Day this year, Women for Independence (WFI) launched a new leaflet as a fist step in re-energising their campaigning efforts. If you care about Scottish independence, feminism, and the role of women in politics, this episode offers insights and inspiration from one of the new leaders shaping Scotland’s future. Basically WFI are on the road again!

WFI played a vital role in the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum, building a respected and influential grassroots network of women-led local groups. Over the last decade, momentum has slowed. Some groups have gone quiet. And some issues led to some of the membership leaving.
Indypodcasters Fiona and Marlene speak with Fatima Joji, a member of their National Executive. Fatima shares her vision for WFI, tells us a bit about the their recent Annual General Meeting, and how women’s voices are still crucial to shaping an independent Scotland.

Topics include:
- 02:09 Relaunching Women for Independence
- 16:27 Supporting women into politics
- 28:50 A wellbeing economy
- 33:56 WFI visibility
- We were invited to speak at the last Edinburgh WFI AGM. You can watch that here: Women of Independent Mind.
- Two years ago, we podcast talks from the Women for Independence AGM: Claim the Space encouraged women to enter politics; Living Shouldn’t Come at a Cost looked at the cost of living crisis, two years ago, and it may have worsened since then; and A Voice from Ukraine looked at the effect of war on women.
