Miners Strike 40th Anniversary: McVicar Memorial Lecture
We were invited along to attend the Scottish Socialist Party’s Memorial Lecture. It was a very well attended event in the Townhead Community Centre. Of course we took our recording equipment so now you can listen to it too.
Alex Shanks gave a passionate account of his experiences a young 19 year old miner during the strike. He got arrested three times. Then Richie Venton, author of Class War on Workers, explored the strike’s lasting impact on the working class.

The discussions dive into the history of the Miners’ Strike, its consequences, and the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights. Whether you remember the strike or are engaged in class warfare studies, you’ll find powerful insights into one of the most significant labour movements in UK recent history.
