Fiona and I are definitely Still Yes. No surprise there!
We were over in Edinburgh for the Believe in Scotland Still Yes Rally outside Holyrood. It was still early as we were approaching the Parliament Buildings, but we bumped into Dave Thomson, former MSP, who was there with Christians for Independence. Dave has been a guest on the podcast, so of course we had a chat!
Only a few minutes later I was saying hello to Greg McCarra, another of our podcast guests, so of course that was another wee chat. Fiona found the Yes Stones Cairn. I had a great chat with a lady holding a Still Yes placard. And then I found myself standing next to two friends from Glasgow Pensioners for Indy group.
Ten years ago to the day, we were about to lose the Independence Referendum. And we can all remember what it felt like as the result came in. But nevertheless the crowd was cheery. The flags were waving. Kids were running around. I saw one teenager with a placard that said “Not Too Young to be Free” – that almost had me in tears. And bands were playing. And we’re still here, still yes.
We shot some video….
And we took some photos….
Speeches at the Rally
The speeches at the rally were excellent. And we have put them together in an audio podcast which will be available on Friday 24th September. You can listen to that wherever you get your podcasts. And it will be posted here too.
